Position: Portfolio Manager CL

Overall Purpose and Main Objectives: The Portfolio Manager is responsible for projects, personnel, processes and capabilities associated with application development for assigned systems and areas of expertise. The primary role is resource scheduling, prioritization of workloads and overall project planning and management working in conjunction with business areas to meet delivery dates. This position is accountable for managing the entire project life cycle and coordinating the development of effective business automation to meet or exceed business partner requirements. Ability to build strong positive working relationships both internally and externally.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Project Execution - manage and oversee all project management phases including planning, requirements, construction, testing, implementation and post implementation. Coordinates effectively across portfolios for resource allocation and impact analysis. Demonstrates aptitude and develops a track record of selecting the appropriate project methodology, strong project planning and resource management to achieve business plan objectives through technology project implementations. Delivers projects on time and on budget. Promote strategies that reduce application complexity and promote reuse. Maintain proper scope, risk and change management levels throughout the project life cycle.
2. Business Partnering and Relationship Building - Actively works with business partners to provide automated solutions to achieve financial and workflow benefits. Anticipate customer needs. Drive at true business needs by adding value through technical knowledge, demonstrated system expertise as well as demonstrated business knowledge. Build effective working relationships with internal business partners, vendors and external partners.
3. Talent Management - Attracts and retains top talent in all positions. Takes appropriate measures and actions to address non-performance. Sets clear expectations and goals for all assignments to achieve excellence. Aligns organizational strategy and the business plan with technology project implementations. Builds skills through coaching, mentoring and encouraging ongoing education whether self-paced or formal. Drives accountability.
4. Communication - Consistently communicates with business partners, vendors, team members and sponsors on project and issue status. Effective at upward and downward communication. Utilizes written and verbal communications by addressing any issues through appropriate communication channels. Coordinate peer sharing among application development portfolios.
5. Ethical Leadership - acts with integrity and honesty in all work and people dealings. Actions and behaviors support organizational values. Promotes inclusion and collaboration with all team members, business areas, Alliance partners and vendors. Leads by example.
6. Maintenance and Support - Oversees on-going system maintenance including tracking, critical system problems and outages for portfolio applications. Directs team, partners and business groups to assess the severity and relative priorities of problems and work on timely resolution.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Entry: * Bachelor's Degree or equivalent business experience
* 6-9 years' experience in project management and the delivery of business systems
* Sound knowledge of multi-platform environments: mainframe, n-tier
* Sound knowledge of application development methodologies: Waterfall, Agile etc.
* Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
* Good understanding of property/casualty insurance terms and processes
* Ability to manage and motivate a team of systems professionals
* Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications and proficiency in MS Project
* Recognized leadership for at least 5 years

Fully Qualified: * Bachelor's Degree or equivalent business experience
* 8-15 years' experience in project management and the delivery of business systems
* Sound knowledge of multi-platform environments: mainframe, n-tier
* Familiar with contemporary system design: SOA, Object Oriented, Web Services
* Expert knowledge in application development methodologies: Waterfall, Agile etc.
* Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
* Good understanding of property/casualty insurance terms and processes
* Ability to manage and motivate a team of systems professionals
* Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications and proficiency in MS Project
* Recognized leadership as a "thought leader" in developing and deploying techniques and tools associated with Application Portfolio Management

Physical Requirements: Normal office environment
Some overnight travel required
